MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a 15-year-old North Carolina boy who went missing in the surf off Myrtle Beach last weekend has been recovered.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge told local media outlets that 15-year-old Dorrion Smith’s body was found about 5 p.m. on Monday. The cause of death was drowning.
Smith was from Durham. Authorities say he was last seen near a pier in Myrtle Beach on Saturday evening.
Edge says the ocean was rough last weekend and it is especially dangerous to swim in the evening because rough currents can go unnoticed.
