Power outage shuts down some rides at Carowinds theme park

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Officials say a power outage shut down some rides at Carowinds theme park for a few hours over the weekend.

Media outlets report Carowinds spokeswoman Laresa Thompson said in a statement that the outage stopped rides in a portion of the park shortly before noon on Sunday.

Thompson says those rides were shut down and guests were evacuated.

WBTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1UuZvai) Duke Energy spokeswoman Paige Layne said that a bad underground cable was to blame for the outage. Layne said the problem was isolated and that power was restored a few hours later.
