RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Democratic activists in Raleigh are aiming to get unified after a contentious national presidential primary contest and energized by their standard bearer in statewide races this fall.

More than 1,000 people were expected to attend the state Democratic Party Convention on Saturday at N.C. State University’s McKimmon Center. The convention’s chief business is electing 46 delegates and their alternates to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next month. Hillary Clinton won North Carolina’s March 15 primary over Bernie Sanders and is allocated 26 of those delegates.

Speakers at the party’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Saturday night include EMILY’S List President Stephanie Schriock and Attorney General Roy Cooper, the party’s choice to challenge Republican Gov. Pat McCrory in November.
