CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a man fleeing officers crashed his car into a utility pole, then fired a single shot as the officers approached. No injuries were reported.
The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1UHExYj) a statement from the department said officers stopped a car Thursday night, but the driver sped off.
According to the statement, the unidentified officers turned off their lights and siren but continued to follow the vehicle. Shortly afterward, the car struck a utility pole about six blocks away from the site of the initial stop. As officers approached, the suspect fired and continued to run.
Moody faces several charges, including assault on a government official, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. Online records don’t indicate whether Moody has an attorney.
