ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office made two arrests earlier this month in cases involving knife assaults.
Deputies say 18-year-old Travina Lache Scott, of Cemetery Road in Candor, hit a man with her vehicle May 23 on Sallie Goins Hill Road in Ellerbe, then used a knife to cut him following an argument. The victim had to be treated for his injuries at a hospital.
She was arrested June 3, charged with a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon and a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Scott was originally held in the Richmond County Jail with no bond, but was released Monday on a $100,000 secured bond.
Dennis Franklin Hutchinson Jr., of Winsor Drive near Cordova, is also accused of cutting a man with a knife — who required hospital treatment — after getting into an argument on nearby Clearfield Drive, according to deputies.
He was arrested Sunday, charged with a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and jailed under a $100,000 secured bond. He was still in jail late Thursday afternoon.
Online court records show they are both scheduled to appear in court June 16 and have no other pending charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show neither have any past criminal convictions in the state.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
