RALEIGH — Downtown Rockingham is set to receive a $94,340 grant for revitalization and renewal, according to State Rep. Ken Goodman, D-Richmond.

“I have been working with the Speaker of the House on this project and I am pleased to announce the funding has been placed in the budget and is awaiting final approval by the House of Representatives,” Goodman said in a Thursday statement.

The funds are coming out of a discretionary fund established by Speaker of the House Tim Moore to help local downtowns with revitalization and renewal efforts, helping to stimulate economic growth and vitality in downtown districts.

“There has been a great deal of synergy in downtown Rockingham,” according to a statement from the Speakers office on the grant program. “This grant goes above and beyond the popular N.C. Main Street program. The focus of the downtown development grants is to help continue growth and job creation. Similar grants have proven extremely effective for other cities across North Carolina.”

“This grant will help facilitate progress on a number of fronts and will allow the city to continue strategic investments in our downtown hub,” Goodman said. “I think it will work extremely well with the recent RCC initiative on providing a downtown campus and will help spark further business development for the city.”

Other cities listed for grants are: Albemarle, Angier, Asheboro, Beulaville, Boone, Burgaw, Cherryville, Clemmons, Clinton, Clyde, Cornelius, Eden, Edenton, Elizabethtown, Fayetteville, Forest City, Gastonia, Greenville, Hickory, Hillsborough, Huntersville, Jacksonville, Jefferson, Kannapolis, Kernersville, King, Kinston, Laurinburg, Lumberton, Marion, Matthews, Mint Hill, Mocksville, Mooresville, Morehead City, Mt. Airy, Pleasant Garden, Raeford, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount, Roxboro, Salisbury, Shelby, Southport, Statesville, Thomasville, Valdese, Wadesboro, Wake Forest, Washington, Wilkesboro, and Wilson.
