HAMLET — Last year, Paradise Concerts brought local disc jockeys to Cole Auditorium for a DJ reunion. Tonight, the promotion owned by Rockingham native Stavis Morman will bring laughter to Hamlet with the Carolina Throwback Comedy Show and House Party.

Morman entered the U.S. Army seven days after he graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 1975. He grew up in Richmond County’s Philadelphia community and has been married to his wife Andrea, from Nuremberg, Germany, for more than 20 years.

While stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville and Fort Jackson in South Carolina, in the late ’70s and ’80s, he spent his off-duty time working as a mobile DJ playing clubs and events in Richmond and surrounding counties. He became popular and well-known as DJ Craz-Z-O.

He now spends his time promoting shows and events as a concert promoter and works as the house manager at McMahon Auditorium in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he resides.

His company, Paradise Concerts, is putting on the comedy show and house party and will feature internet comic sensation Bishop Bullwinkle as the headliner.

Also performing will be comedian Honest John from Los Angeles, the Gerald Levert Experience by MoeTowne Alex and Cardye Smooth, a musician and singer from Raleigh.

DJ Base will be the DJ again this year for the festivities tonight. Base is also from Rockingham and is the personal DJ for rap and R&B artist Cee-Lo Green.

Morman said he holds concerts all over the country, including two sold-out shows last week with Bishop Bullwinkle in Oklahoma and Texas, but he always finds time to come home.

“What I try to do now is I do shows everywhere,” he said. “I try to come back to Rockingham at least once a year because this is where I’m from and try to bring some quality entertainment back once a year.”

The show will begin at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7, Morman said, and tickets will be available up until the doors open.

Tickets are $30 for general admission and $40 for VIP and can be purchased at four locations — Cole Auditorium at 910-410-1690, Barber Zone in Rockingham at 910-997-2626, Breeden Barbershop in Hamlet at 910-582-4441 and Uptown Fashions in Laurinburg at 910-277-0879.

Tickets can also be bought online at www.paradiseconcertspresents.com or attendees can charge by phone at 877-772-5425. Morman said those interested can also text the word “Throwback” to 554-69 and will receive a text back with all the information.
