HAMLET — Melvin Ingram of the San Diego Chargers is coming home to Richmond County to host his annual Melvin’s Mission Possible Community Family Fun Day at Hamlet Memorial Park.

His sister, Monique Ingram, said there are two things everyone should know ahead of time.

“First, everything’s free,” she said. “I think last year some people in the community didn’t come out because maybe they passed by and thought it was something they had to be invited to, or it costs money. But everything is free.”

The second thing, Ingram added, is to be there at 9 a.m. on Saturday when the gates open.

“We’re starting a little early this year. We’re going to be giving away T-shirts, we’ll have face painting, cotton candy and hot dogs, popcorn and games, and jumping,” she said. “We might even have some special guests drop by.”

Melvin Ingram said the event is a way for him to do something worthwhile for families and kids living in the place he came from.

“I look forward to doing this every year,” he said. “Being able to give back to the community that I grew up in is such an accomplishment for me. I love making a positive impact in the community by sharing all sorts of creative ways to help families of the community and create a day of fun for each other.”

Family Fun Day goes on until noon, followed at 2 p.m. by a basketball game for ages 18 and up.

Ingram asks people planning to attend to park at the rear entrance, where they will have to sign waivers.
