RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A Raleigh man and woman are facing charges in connection with the abuse of their 2-year-old daughter.
News outlets report arrest warrants show that 22-year-old Terrell Leon Ballard was arrested Monday night on a felony child abuse charge.
Ballard is accused of assaulting his daughter on June 16, leaving bruises on much of her body. Warrants show the girl sustained injuries on her head, arm, chest, abdomen, back and thighs.
Also arrested was the child’s mother, 23-year-old Sheena Sekret Bates. She is charged with aiding and abetting felony child abuse.
WTVD-TV reports prosecutor Doug Faucette says Bates told investigators that Ballard used a belt on their daughter, bruising her.
Faucette says Ballard admitted to using the belt but denied causing the bruises.
It’s unclear whether Ballard and Bates have attorneys.
