RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina authorities have launched their yearly drunken driving enforcement campaign that runs through Labor Day.

State Transportation Secretary Nick Tennyson said in a news release Friday that the goal of the annual Booze It & Lose It campaign is to reduce alchohol-related fatalities.

State officials have also launched a website that helps people find public transportation and taxis or coordinate a sober driver. The websiste is part of a campaign called “Be Smarter Than That.”

During last year’s campaign, law enforcement officers arrested more than 3,500 impaired drivers.
