ENFIELD, N.C. (AP) — A Halifax County plant that makes replacement windshields for vehicles is closing, putting 210 people out of work.
Local media outlets report that the Safelite Glass Corp. plant in Enfield will close on Oct. 10.
The plant has been in operation for nearly a half century and makes about 1 million replacement windshields a year.
But the company said in a statement that it can’t continue to make investments needed to make more complex windshield designs in the future.
Safelite President and Chief Executive Tom Feeney says that the company tried to find ways to keep the plant open by working with state and local officials.
