CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Dollar Tree says it’s cutting 370 jobs at the former corporate headquarters of Family Dollar Stores in Matthews.
The Charlotte Observer reported (http://bit.ly/2b0nuAQ) that Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar last year.
Chesapeake, Virginia.-based Dollar Tree kept a Family Dollar support center in Matthews after closing the $9 billion deal.
But the company said Thursday the layoffs are part of an effort to eliminate redundancies in its support operations. Dollar Tree had said previously it hoped to reduce combined annual expenses by $300 million over three years.
The company did not say Thursday how many people were working in Matthews. It said earlier this year that it had about 1,200 workers in Matthews. Dollar Tree did say about 100 of the jobs being eliminated now were already vacate.
