NC man sentenced after 8,000 bundles of heroin seized

BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina will serve more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to what authorities say was the biggest heroin bust in Brunswick County history.

Local media outlets report that 34-year-old Kevin Jermaine Hankins of Supply pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday on heroin trafficking charges.

He was arrested two years ago following a high speed chase that led to the seizure of nearly 8,000 bundles of heroin. Authorities say the drug was purchased in New Jersey and was going to be distributed in Brunswick County located between Wilmington and the South Carolina state line.

Authorities said the seizure was the largest in county history, almost as much as the 8,700 bundles of the drug seized in all of 2013.
