ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Asheville police are delivering citations to activists who protested the shooting death of a black man by an officer.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/2a9bPNX) more than 20 people have been cited for a July 21st march and sit-in at the police department about the shooting death of 35-year-old Jai Williams, who died July 2. A department spokeswoman says the most common charge is impeding the flow of traffic.

The protest followed outrage over a series of publicized police shootings of black men and attacks on officers that killed five officers in Dallas and three officers in Louisiana.

The police spokeswoman says authorities are using surveillance cameras in the department and those worn by officers to identify protesters. At the time of the shooting, Asheville police officers didn’t have body cameras.
