KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (AP) — Police say they still want to talk to the boyfriend who was with a woman when she and her toddler son were struck and killed by a truck on a North Carolina street.

Investigators told media outlets that after the truck hit 30-year-old Clarissa Ussery last week, it appears Eric Odems placed the body of Ussery’s 15-month-old son beside her and ran off.

Police say Ussery was walking in the road in Kings Mountain and the driver swerved and slammed on brakes, but couldn’t miss her. No charges will be filed.

Investigators hope Odems can help them figure out why Ussery was walking in the road with her young son at 4 a.m. on July 21.
