WILMINGTON (AP) — Plans by CSX Corp. to invest $160 million in an intermodal rail hub near Rocky Mount will mean new rail services for the Port of Wilmington.

Local media outlets report that Gov. Pat McCrory says CSX will provide direct service between the port and the hub. But the line will also, for the first time in three decades, provide overnight rail service between Wilmington and Charlotte.

The CSX hub in Edgecombe County announced earlier this week is expected to transfer 260,000 cargo containers per year between railroad cars and trucks.
