N. Carolina delegate’s Trump comments spur his departure

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina delegate is leaving the Republican National Convention early amid friction over negative comments he made about GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Former North Carolina Chief Justice Bob Orr said Wednesday that he was driving to the airport to leave Cleveland after having some issues with his credentials.

Orr said he didn’t attend the Tuesday night session after he was told that the state party chairman had his credentials and needed to talk to him after his Trump comments. Orr said he had told a Raleigh television station that he thought Trump was a dangerous force. Orr has been a John Kasich supporter.

The state GOP’s executive director, Dallas Woodhouse, didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment about the issue.
