CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Charlotte woman who led a $10 million Medicaid fraud scheme has been convicted.
The U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release that 48-year-old Cynthia Teresa Harlan of Charlotte was found guilty Friday on several charges, including three counts of making false statements relating to heath care matters.
In addition, 38-year-old Claude Bernard McCrae of Hamlet was convicted of health care fraud conspiracy, and 38-year-old Tyree Craig Jones of Charlotte pleaded guilty to the same charge.
According to evidence presented at the trial, Harlan used a network of accomplices, including Jones and McCrae, to carry out an extensive health care fraud scheme which involved submitting fake reimbursement claims to Medicaid for services that were not provided.
A sentencing date for the three hasn’t been set.
