CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in Charlotte say a man driving the wrong way on a local street died when his pickup truck collided with a tractor that was pulling tandem trailers.
A statement from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said 58-year-old Micky Gale Howard was driving the wrong way on the eastbound lanes of Wilkinson Boulevard on Saturday. The truck was in the left eastbound lane, but the driver was unable to move to avoid the collision because of traffic in the adjacent lane.
Investigators say Howard’s pickup truck clipped the fender of the tractor and hit both trailers before stopping on the median and partially in the westbound lane.
Howard was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The driver of the tractor was not injured.
