No charges to be filed against man in fatal shooting

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The district attorney for Buncombe County say an apartment resident who shot and killed a man will not face charges.

Local media outlets report 20-year-old Landon Roberts Henry was shot in the chest and arm on July 3. A search warrant filed by investigators says the man who lived at the apartment met Asheville police officers responding to a call outside the residence, identified himself as the shooter and handed over a gun.

Henry was declared dead the scene.

Williams said the unidentified shooter will not face charges under North Carolina’s “Castle Doctrine.” Under that law, a resident of a home in fear of imminent death or bodily harm can legally use lethal force to protect themselves or someone else.

Williams wouldn’t comment on why Henry went to the residence.
