Woman charged in infant daughter’s suffocation death

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A Greenville woman has been charged in the death of her 5-month-old daughter.

Media outlets report that 20-year-old Meaghan Lesley Rider was arrested June 27 and is charged with murder/homicide by child abuse and unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person.

Deputy Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill says EMS and fire officials responded April 17 to a call of an unresponsive infant. Investigators found Skyler Williams in her bassinette.

Dill says a piece of plastic was found in the bassinette that investigators believe obstructed the infant’s breathing.

According to an arrest warrant, an autopsy indicates that suffocation was the cause of death.

On the second charge, a warrant says Rider exposed her 1-year-old child to methamphetamine.

It’s unclear if Rider has an attorney.
