RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Food Lion and Smithfield are teaming up to donate 70,000 pounds of food and produce to a Raleigh food bank.

The companies will talk about their donation at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Organizers say the donations will provide nearly 300,000 meals. The food bank has a summer goal of providing more than 3 million summer meals to the over 300,000 children in the area who get free lunches from their schools.

The donations are part of different initiatives for the two companies. Pork producer Smithfield runs a Helping Hungry Homes campaign, while Food Lion operates the Food Lion Feeds program.
