Belton Smith, Jr., of Rockingham passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the age of 81.
An entombment service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Richmond County Memorial Park Chapel officiated by Pastor James Hinson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mr. Smith was born October 21, 1931 in Richmond County, a son of the late Belton Smith, Sr., and Nona Smith. He was a Korean War Veteran that proudly served with the United States Army. He was a truck driver retiring from Fredrickson Trucking after many years of service. He served as a member of the Beverly Hills Baptist Church and loved going to Bojangle’s Coffee Club. Belton and Peggy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on December 8, 2012.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Rudolph Smith, James Smith and sister, Lillian Barber.
Belton is survived by his wife, Peggy Smith of their home in Rockingham; daughter, Tammy Rogers and husband Jimmy of Rockingham; brothers, Davy Smith of Laurel Hill, Floyd Smith of Hamlet; sisters, Pearl Olerud of Hamlet, Irene Polston of Cheraw, SC, Claire Herndon of Laurel Hill and his grandson, Chason Rogers USAF.
