Wanda Carswell Harris, 87, of Hamlet, died, Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Sandy Ridge Memory Care, Candor.
She was born March 14, 1925 in Hickory, NC, the oldest child of Pink Carswell and Claudia Jones Carswell. She graduated from Hickory High School in 1942 and from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Morganton, NC in 1947. She worked at the NC State Hospital of Morganton until 1955 as a registered nurse specializing in psychiatry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a beloved younger brother, Robert Glenn “Bob” Carswell of Hickory; and her former husband and good friend, Phil Harris.
She was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church of Hamlet and had attended Sweet Haven Church in later years.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughter, Karen Harris Kirk and husband Darrell of Ellerbe; two grandchildren, whom she adored, Lindsey Kirk Roberts and husband Matthew of Rockingham and Ben Kirk and wife Jami of Hamlet; one great-grandchild, Shelby Grace Roberts; a sister-in-law, Tiny Carswell of Hickory; one niece; and one nephew.
The family will receive friends at Harrington Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm with a Graveside at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Burial will follow.
