Bobby Eugene Simmons, age 76 of Rockingham departed this life after a long illness on Monday, November 19, 2012.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Ellerbe. Burial with military honors will follow in the Richmond County Memorial Park.
Bobby was born February 13, 1936 in Stokes County, North Carolina, a son of the late James William Simmons and Bertha “Bertie” M. Simmons. He was a Veteran that proudly served with the United States Army. He worked in textiles with Clark Equipment and Fruit of the Loom retiring after many years of service. Bobby enjoyed hunting, gardening, and watching NASCAR racing, above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Billy Simmons, Hassell Simmons, R.G. Simmons, O’Dell Simmons and sisters, Mayleen East, Maureen Hall and Sarah Green.
Bobby is survived by his longtime faithful companion, Patricia Robson of their home in Rockingham; sons, Ronnie Simmons and wife Terry of Mooresville, Kenneth Simmons and wife Hilda of Rockingham; his daughter, Gena Simmons of Rockingham; brothers, Paul Simmons of Candor, Franklin “Foye” Simmons of Rockingham, Carlos Simmons of Candor; sisters, Nancy McCormick of Ellerbe and Betty Ruth Simmons of Candor; four grandchildren, Candace Simmons, Kenneth Simmons II, Chasity Pearce, Karrah Darling; four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of family, friends and his K9 companion Zack.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
