Samuel Russell Covington, 75, of Alexandria, Va., died on Oct. 18,2012.
A memorial service is planned for a future date.
Covington was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Covington of Rockingham. He graduated from Rockingham High School, Gardner-Webb College and UNC. Covington was formerly employed by the Richmond County Daily Journal, The Hamlet News Messenger, and worked as for the Charlotte Observer as a reporter and Religion Editor. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbye Colvin.
He is survived by a son, Scott Covington of Raleigh, sisters, Cynthia Wease of Greenville, Pat Covington of Charlotte and Lynn Covington of Charlotte.
Arrangements are made by Jefferson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Va.
