Mrs. Verdie Benoist, 75, of 305 County Home Rd., Rockingham died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Hamlet. She was born February 12, 1937 in Cabarrus County, a daughter of Lonnie and Nora Mae Drye Freeman.
Mrs. Benoist was a homemaker and a charter member of Joy Free Will Baptist Church, where she was in the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15th at Joy Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. June Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park.
Mrs. Benoist is survived by her husband, Albert Benoist; sons, James Pressley and Ronnie Pressley, both of Rockingham and Jerry Pressley of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Jerry Dean Pressley, II, MaryAnn Pressley, April Posey, Amanda Tyler, Rhonda Pressley, and Ronnie Pressley, Jr.; thirteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Heaton of Rockingham and Sadie Greene of Elm City. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Bouno; three brothers, Ray, Carl, and Frank Freeman; and two sisters, Faye Biggs and Sarah Fowler.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Joy Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
