Melissa Ann Baker and Russell Edward Lancaster were united in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The traditional ceremony was officiated by The Reverend Dr. Robert Austell along with The Reverend Leslie Dibble. Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception in Beard Hall.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Baker of Charlotte and granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mack Baker and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ordry Hall. A graduate of East Mecklenburg, Melissa earned bachelor degrees in Elementary Education and Child and Family Development and a masters in Child and Family Studies from UNCC. She is employed with Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church as the Director of Children’s Ministries.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lancaster of Charlotte and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lancaster and the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell Badger. A graduate of South Mecklenburg, Russ is employed by Barringer & Barringer Landscape Services as an Equipment & Irrigation Specialist.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Katie Meeks and Kathy Larson of Charlotte served as matrons of honor. The groom’s niece, Lena McFarlane, served as flower girl.

Steve Nolan of Charlotte and Scott McDonald of Raleigh served as best men.

Serving as ushers were Rick Lancaster, brother of the groom; Ross Lancaster and Jackson McFarlane, nephews of the groom and Scott McFarlane, brother-in-law of the groom.

Music was provided by Maddie Shuler, soloist; Cathy Youngblood, pianist and Kevin Carmody, organist. The wedding was directed by Anne Scott, photography by Tommy McCart Photography, flowers by Carolyn Shepherd Design, cake provided by Katiebelle’s and catering provided by Toby Brown.

The rehearsal dinner was held at Cedarwood Country Club hosted by the groom’s parents, an after party/celebration was held at the home of the bride’s parents and a Sunday brunch was held at Cedarwood Country Club hosted by the groom’s aunt.

Following a honeymoon in Charleston, S.C., Melissa and Russ reside in Charlotte with their dog, Bentley.
