First place went to the Atlanta Pipe Band and the North Carolina State University Pipe Band finished third.
“I am very proud of the pipe band's performances this fall,” said Pipe Major Bill Caudill. “Despite a serious loss of players in the spring due to graduation and transfer, the remaining members remained determined to do the best they could to remain competitive in our assigned grade. Comments from the judges this past weekend indicated that we were a very close second to the winners.”
St. Andrews had won this competition five of the past seven years, including three straight from 2007 until 2009.
Individuals from the band also earned prizes during the weekend. Matt Poletti earned second in Amateur Grade III Strathspey and Reel and fourth in Grade III March for piping. Billy Gehringer earned first place in Amateur Grade I Hornpipe and Jig and second in Amateur Grade I March/Strathspey and Reel for drumming. Patrick Osborne finished first in Amateur Grade I March/Strathspey and Reel and second in Amateur Grade I Hornpipe and Jig for drumming. Caudill finished second in professional piping for Piobaireachd and second in Professional March/Strathspey and Reel.
Stone Mountain was the third and final competition of the fall season for the band.
