LAURINBURG — After a successful showing from the Richmond Lady Raiders volleyball squad on their senior night festivities against Cape Fear, the Scotland Lady Scots turned the tables on the Lady Raiders during their own Senior Night.

The Lady Scots were all business as they downed the Lady Raiders in three straight games, 25-11, 25-12, 25-14.

While things didn’t go as well for Richmond coach Michelle Denson’s squad Thursday night, she remains optimistic about the Lady Raiders’ chances in the upcoming Southeastern Conference tournament.

“We came out flat tonight, and Scotland always plays a very physical up-tempo match,” Denson said.

“After coming off the win last night against Cape Fear with a much slower playing style, the Lady Scots were just hammering their shots home at a very fast pace,” Denson added.

“They have very strong hitters when they line up to take a shot, even their backcourt can put the ball over the net with great precision and strength,” Denson said.

“We will be ok for the conference tournament; we just weren’t prepared for the physical fast play of Scotland.”

The Lady Raiders now wait for the news of who they will play in the first round of the tournament.

Coach Denson expectx to face the Lumberton Lady Pirates in Lumberton, but Richmond will prepare as if it will have to play any of the teams in the Southeastern Conference.

Before Thursday night’s match the Lady Raiders were fourth in the conference standings, with Lumberton and Purnell Swett right behind them.

Whomever the Lady Raiders face, coach Denson will have her squad ready and waiting to attempt a playoff push.
