Richmond Senior’s women’s tennis team honored seniors Ashley Martin and Kira Renczewitz on Senior Day Thursday afternoon, but the Lady Raiders were unable to come up with the Southeastern Conference win, falling to Lumberton, 8-1.

With the loss, the Lady Raiders fell to 1-12 overall on the 2010 season (1-7 SEC).

Two SEC meets remain next week before the Lady Raiders travel to Pinecrest the week after next for the SEC tournament.

On Thursday afternoon, the Lady Raiders ran into a Lumberton squad that puts a different kind of spin on the ball, according to coach Paula York.

“It’s all part of gaining experience,” York said. “The more our girls play, the more they’ll see different styles of play, and the more comfortable they’ll get.”

Brittany Hudson had the one match victory for Richmond.

She dispatched Lumberton’s Brittany Bruce, 8-5.

Pro sets were played, due to a lack of available courts resulting from Wednesday night’s heavy rains.

The Lady Raiders travel to Pinecrest on Tuesday and Scotland on Thursday to close out the 2010 regular season.
