The United States Achievement Academy announced that Jarod Ricks from Rockingham has been named a United States National Leadership and Service Award Winner. Jarod will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook which is published nationally. Jarod is a student at Rockingham Middle School.

This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to obtain. In fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.

The Academy selects USAA winners based on the Standards of Selection set forth by the Academy. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, and dependability.

Jarod is the son of Susan and the late Larry Ricks from Rockingham. The grandparents are Betty and the late Craven Coleman of Rockingham and the late Truby and Pinkey Ricks also of Rockingham.
