SOUTHERN PINES — The Richmond senior summer baseball team found itself in an unenviable position Thursday night in its Central Carolina Summer Scholastic League playoff contest against Grays Creek.

The Raiders were down 6-0 before they even had a chance to bat.

The rally for the Raiders began right away in the bottom of the first.

Richmond was able to put up three runs in the fourth, to close to within two at 6-4.

Hunter King was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Andy Shuler had the key blow in the frame with a two-RBI single.

The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

With the bases loaded, Alex Dockery hit into a fielder’s choice, which allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score.

Luke Bullard turned in a masterful relief stint.

Relieving starter Peter Howe in the top of the first, Bullard hurled six and one-third innings of shutout, one-hit ball.

Richmond advanced to tonight’s semifinals.

The Raiders will take on Lumberton at 5 p.m. at Southern Lee High School.
