Area Cub Scouts competed Saturday in downtown Hamlet in a Soap Box Derby race on Main Street.

Racing started at 6 p.m. to take advantage of cooler weather and track conditions.

"Each grade level is a Den," said Cub Master Tonya Freeman. "The cars are so much larger so one pack builds each car and they race those.”

Prizes were given for first, second and third place as well as the most creative car.
