With the sun going down on the baseball diamond Tuesday night, the temperature quickly followed.

However, the action on the field was just beginning to heat up between Hamlet EMS and Hamlet Rotary as the two squads faced off for the league title in the 11-12-year-old division — a crown Hamlet EMS would win on this night, 9-6.

Hamlet EMS was able to push across four runs in the top of the first, mostly due to mental mistakes by the Rotary team, and seemed to be poised to dominate the game.

But the tide changed in the bottom of the first, as Hamlet Rotary was able to push across four runs of its own to tie the score at 4-4 going into the second.

Rotary took a 6-5 lead into the fifth inning, and the EMS squad answered back to knot the score at 6-6.

The momentum in this game shifted all night before Hamlet EMS finally gained the upper hand, scoring three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the deal and take home the championship trophy.

Jacob Simmons propelled the Hamlet EMS plate attack, as his bat never cooled off during the game.

He was 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring one run and during the game.

He had a home run in the first inning to put EMS on the fast track to the win.

Ryan Humphrey also contributed to the EMS effort, going 1-for-2 with a run scored, and an RBI.
