What were we thinking?

As stated in a recent letter there are some who wouldn’t work in a pie factory even when jobs were plentiful. They prefer to make welfare a way of life.

However, there are those who would work but cannot find jobs and to add to the problem, expenses have escalated to the point that forces at least two in a family to work with some working two jobs to make ends meet

I know those, who hold well paying positions but when they leave work at 5 p.m., they clean offices in the area. To add insult to injury, they are forced to give part of that salary to take care of the irresponsible which only encourages a continuation of irresponsibility.

Our money has lost its value and this administration is still printing valueless money causing more inflation.

We are borrowing money from China just to pay the interest on the money that we already owe them. Unless we return to our values and principles of conservatism, it will get worse.

America was once a great nation, respected and feared by all. Now we find ourselves diminished in the eyes others, with China telling us what we can and cannot do.

Most Americans are unaware of how America is being destroyed by politicians who are trying to use Socialism to gain power, while causing America to lose its influence with hostile nations.

I’m not speaking of Obama only, others before him did it but unlike Obama, didn’t admit it.

Obama admitted, before he was elected, his intention to eliminate the most successful system in the world, capitalism.

Despite that, however, Americans elected ”that one” who, also, proclaimed to the whole world that our founders and forefathers had it all wrong for 200 years. What were we thinking?

At Rohanen Elementary school we promoted no certain denomination. In class there we read the scripture and said the Lord's prayer each morning. One of the students was chosen by the teacher to lead it. Rohanen is where I first learned the 23rd Psalm. My family was not into church so I learned about God through my school there , which was a good thing. Had it been like it is today, I may never have learned that there was a God. I also remember in HS meeting each Mon. morning for chapel in which we repeated The Lord's Prayer.

I also remember, at the death of FDR, meeting in chapel where we had scripture, prayer and I Joe McClaurin did an excellent job reading "Oh Captain, My captain", a poem written by Walt Whitman in homage of Abraham Lincoln at his death in 1865.

Just because one has devotionals that recognize God does not mean that he must promote one denomination over another. Our Constitution prohibits that. We also had Bacculaurate service at HS graduation where a local minister was chosen to conduct the service. Our students of today are missing so much by not having that opportunity.

MRS WHEELER

WHICH RELIGION DO YOU CHOOSE TO ALEINATE ON YOUR QUEST TO PUT PRAYER BACK IN SCHOOL?

YOU SEE THERES A REASON FOR IT TO BE TAKEN OUT TO BEGIN WITH

AND JOHN JAY WAS AFTER ALL THE PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN BIBLKE COLLEGE AFTER ALL WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECTED HIM TO DO 200 YEARS AGO

HOW MANY RELIGIONS WERE AROUND THEN?

wolf, instead of the personal attacks, would it not be more creditable for you to explain which facts in my letter are incorrect. Was it the statement that we are paying interest with money that we borrowed from China on the money that we already owe them? Or was it my statement that America is declining in reputation and greatness somewaht. I'll agree its still the greatest but with the administration that we now have, how long will it condinue to be if we allow this administration, or others, to diminish that greatness by violating the very mandates we were establishe on?

How about just stick with the issues? You did succeed with the Democrat strategy of getting attention steered away from important issues.

wolf, now for the explanation of writing in my hand. I was referring (or comparing) the nit picking here to the nit picking on Sarah Palin. Becaus critics can't find anythinbg to contradict, they made a big deal of her writing in her hand. I thought everybody did - I do.

Kudos to republicanwatchdog and flowerdog!! Right on however I sincerely doubt that Ms. Wheeler will"get" the points you make. Sad but true, her mind is like a steel trap and her actions compare to a "dog with a bone". Perhaps it is because she has more than one skeleton rattling in HER closet.

Ms. Wheeler,

Once again you have put your twist on normal thought processes due to the simple fact that your reading comprehension is impaired. What do you mean "I write on my hand"??? How bizarre!!

Allowing schools to have prayer in school isn't gone to change social behavior in this country. The problem is much deeper than lack of school prayer. Mostly it stems from the generational gap consisting of ineffective social developments skills as a by-product of the environment. There are additional social factors encompassing this generation such as work ethic and self-worth but you would blame the lack of religious influence on those so why should I bother to influence you. An example of your contradictory nature is when you sited in a previous post that "Christians do not kill". Does this mean that your son who was severely injured in battle did not kill a foe while defending your freedom???? Take republicanwatchdog's advice and visit the veteran memorial park to ponder your statement and their sacrifices. Better yet, why don't you pile yourself into your vehicle, drive the freedom highway to Rockingham and attend a veteran council meeting at the VFW each 2nd Saturday of each month at 2 pm? I am sure the veterans would appreciate hearing what you have to say!

In your generation and those before you, women had abortions or chose to have their illegitimate child which was kept secret. The social stigma was a heavy burden to carry and yes, it happened to "good Christian" women as well. Perhaps that is why you spout the salvation of the bible and other biased opinions of those who you see as the "fallen". It has always been my experience that the people who shout above the masses against excess, sin, etc. are guilty themselves.

There are vast numbers of good people with kind hearts that may not sit in a church. This doesn't make them any less good. Some belonging to this group may actually help those less fortunate more than you do. I cannot believe that I read a local church is asking for donations of cleaning supplies to send to Haiti!! What in H--- are THEY thinking??? Water would be good and soap. They don't even have adequate housing. Good ole soap and water has worked for generations. I see it as another ploy to make themselves as church members "feel good". So sad.....send the people water!!!

As usual, I am not offended by your opinions or comments. I am amazed that you manage to survive each day by your wit.

Re; I have tried my best to get prayer back in the schools. Government unlawfully took that freedom from the people. Separation of Church and state is no where in the Constitution. If you can find it, please pass it on to me.

What I found was that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment[denomination] of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

However, they violated the rights afforded in the Constitution and did make a law "prohibiting the free worship thereof"

Do you really believe that our first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay didn't know the constitution when he stated that we should select Christians as our rulers? And our Founders, when they promoted Bible teaching in school. Do you actually believe that they would contradict the very contract that they themselves composed and signed? Instead of arguing and debating, I would like those questions answered. Can you do that for me?

MRS WHEELEER you are full of contradictions/backpeddeling you say you will fight any gov that tries to change the constitution but once again you say and give us info on how to go about trying to put prayer back in school you want the constitution changed to suit your beliefs(and by what power under the sun makes yours right for everyone?)

RELIGION IS A DIME A DOZEN once again

REALLY DONT YOU THINK YOU SHOULD QUIT WHILE YOUR AHEAD ? YOU NEVER STOP TO AMAZE ME AT HOW EASLY YOU OFFEND THE PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT VIEWS THAN YOURS!

AND THE GOOD OLE DAYS YOU SPEAK OF WERENT SO GOOD FOR EVERYONE IF YOU WOULD CHOOSE TO STEP OUTSIDE YOUR CIRCLE AND SPEAK TO PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT VIEWS THAN YOURS YOU MAY LEARN SOME COMPASSION FOR YOUR FELLOW MAN/WOMWN!

BUT AS I PAUSE TO THINK I SOON UNDERSTAND THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOUR THE TYPE PERSON THATALWAYS HAS A SADDER STORY OR BETTER THINGS OR WORKS HARDER OR SAVED MORE ETC ETC ETC BUT TAKE THIS TO HART VISIT A VFW OR AMERICAN LEIGION AND TALK TO SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO PUT THEMSELVES IN HARMS WAY

SO YOU CAN JUDGE PEOPLE/RELIGIONS AS YOU SEE FIT!!

VISIT THE MEMORIAL AT HE VFW OFF OF CAROLINE ST IN ROCKINGHAM AND ASK YOURSELF WHAT DID THESE PEOPLE BELIVE IN?

AND ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO OUR BRAVE SERVICEMEN/WOMEN WHO MAKE ME PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN EVERYDAY!!!!!

A number of schools around America have returned the Ten Commandments and Bible study to schools. It isn't as difficult as one might think. Here, they have returned prayer meeting to the school. Those who would like to restore prayer might be interested in this article

mywolf- I even write in my hand too! Isn't that the unforgivable sin!

I don't believe you to be so limited in reading comprehension as to require every sentence explained. You are putting us on.

No, I do not believe in taking the first boat out unless on disagrees with the Constitution on which this nation was founded.. I believe one should stay and fight for those rights.. Too many sacrificed lives to maintain our American values and principles to give up so easily. . However, those who do not like the American freedoms awarded by our Constitution which gives each individual the right to pursue his own happiness (rich, poor, black and white alike). Along with freedom, always comes individual responsibility established the most successful economic system in the world, Capitalism. mywolf- I even write in my hand too! Isn't that unheard of!

I don't believe you to be so limited in reading comprehension as to require every sentence explained. You are putting us on.

No, I do not believe in taking the first boat out. I believe in staying and fighting for the provisions of our Constitution. However, those who do not like the American freedoms awarded by our Constitution which gives each individual the right to pursue his own happiness (personal responsibility) , should go to a more Socialist nation We established the most successful economic system in the world, Capitalism through our Constitution.

That as it may be, , I will fight any government that tries to change the rights awarded in the Constitution.

Those who would like a more Socialist (government ownership of capital) government as opposed to Capitalism (an economic system based on private ownership of capital) should take a boat or plane to those countries who already have that system. Socialist government is far from what this nation was founded on.

The right to publicly practice the worship on which this nation was founded has been taken already. I believe it will be restored, but not by the present administration

“The men who established this government had faith in God and sublimely trusted in Him. They besought His counsel and advice in every step of their progress. And so it has been ever since; American history abounds in instances of this trait of piety, this sincere reliance on a Higher Power in all great trials in our national affairs. “ --William McKinley 25th President (1897-1901)

And this, my friend is the reason for the success of America thus far.

Well, at least you are inconsistent! You cannot know of the sacrifices unless you were "there". "Fighting my own government" sounds like you should take the advise you gave me and hop a plane or boat! Regarding the comments about illegitimacy...get real!! It happened during your generation and those before. People just secreted the event away. Just like parents used to seclude mentally retarded or those with seizure disorders in the house or basement. You continue to amaze me with what spews forth from your mouth!

February 16, 2010
Yes, I know about those who gave their lives to keep America free...I have a son who gave up half his face and the sight of one eye for that purpose and my husband helped to bring down Hitler. And I lost 450,000 of my generation which inluded school mates, relatives and neighbors. I know the sacrifices and I will fight to maintain those freedoms that they died for, even if that includes fighting my own government.

February 16, 2010
oh well justify your words to make them make sence and befor you and people like you start to tear me down just be thankful people who may not belive in god gave there lives so you can express your opinions AND I GUESS YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF BACKPEDDLEING

but on a side note what gives you the right to judge other people??

I THOUGHT ONLY CHRISTIANS COULD JUDGE OTHER CHRISTIANS

YOU SEEM TO JUDGE EVERYONE WHO DONT HAVE YOUR BELIEFS AS UNWORTHY TO ENJOY LIFE AS THEY SEE FIT

FREE WILL DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT IS OR DO YOU CHOOSE NOT TO BECAUSE ITS NOT IN YOUR NATURE TO JUST LET PEOPLE LIVE FREE OR DIE!!

February 16, 2010
BTW-I've had many of you in NC take issue with me for claiming that America is the greatest!
|
February 16, 2010
What do I think of America? I think it is the greatest in the world, however it was once a nation of people with higher standards of morals, values and principles - a time when illigitimacy was almost unheard of, no school shootings, and government officials as well as teachers and people in high places were held to a higher standard. But the principles standards that this nation was built on but the Constitution, which is the real basis of America, is still the greatest. We just need to get back to it.

Are you asking me which religion, or are you asking which God. Religion is a dime a dozen. According to our Founders, this nation was built the Christian/Judeo with faith founded in the God that made the heaven and earth in 6 days and on the 7th rested. The One Who parted the Red Sea and gave his only begotten Son. The supernatural One.

And not a mere hat merchant, divorcee and who had a bunch of concubines which is something that any mere man can do.

mywolf, you are right..exactly what I said. I don't 'retreat from an earlier position' if you are quoting or if you are paraphrasing 'I don't change my mind' I don't have to - I get it right the first time.

Thanks to all of you who keep me on my toes - without you life would be so boring
