Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Hillside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Barnes was born May 10, 1927 to the late Emanuel and Mary Maglene Stackhouse in Rowland. There she met and later married her husband, the late Robert Lee Barnes Sr. They worked together on their family farm.
In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was also preceded in death by a son, James Edward Barnes, granddaughters, Esther Michelle Barnes and Lydia Aretta Wallace; sister, Luvenia Stackhouse, brothers, Author Stackhouse, Walter Stackhouse, Herman Stackhouse, James Stackhouse, Earl Stackhouse and Bobby Wade Stackhouse.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Barnes, Jr. of Red Springs and David Barnes of Trenton, NJ; six daughters, Mary Wallace of Brooklyn, NY, Doris Long of Trenton, NJ, Minnie Strickland of Laurinburg, Victoria Barnes-Riley of Indianapolis, IN, Anna Marie Hutchins of Indianapolis, IN and Betty Barnesof Trenton, NJ; a special sister, Victoria S. Melvin of Jacksonville, FL; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
