Mr. Archie “Fairley” Norton, Jr., 84, of 820 NC Hwy.381, Hamlet, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC.

Mr. Norton was born April 28, 1925 in Hamlet, NC, son of Archie Fairley Norton, Sr. and Nettie Mae Quick Norton.

He worked for the City of Hamlet Water Dept. for 24 years before his retirement, and was a member of Nebo Wesleyan Church, which he attended for 84 years. His mother began taking him to Nebo Wesleyan at the age on one month. He sang with the Norton Quartet for several years and taught Sunday School as well. Mr. Norton loved Cooking and Gardening.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, 2009,at Nebo Wesleyan Church from 6-8 p.m.

A Graveside Service will be Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Nebo Wesleyan Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Collins, Bishop Marvin Taylor, and Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will follow.

Mr. Norton was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Vance “Porthole” Norton.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jean Prevatte Norton of the home; sons, Vernon Norton of Hamlet and Rodney Norton of Rockingham; brothers, Lester Norton of Hamlet and Paul Norton of Ormond Beach , Florida; sister, Janie N. Carter of Rockingham; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
