Marston man killed by shotgun blast to the chest

Greg D. Sanders, 44, 138 Jordyn Lane, Marston, was shot dead with a blast from a shotgun Friday, said Capt. John Glidewell, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident is being discussed with the 20A District Attorney’s Office as to what charges to bring against a person involved, he said. The incident took place at 1:31 a.m. at another house on Jordyn Lane.

Glidewell said Sanders was shot in the chest.

He said there was an argument and struggle involved during which Sanders was shot.

His body was sent to the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

In another case, Valerie Dawn Veach, 35, Chestnut Lane, Rockingham, was arrested on three felony counts each of forging checks and cashing them and one count of misdemeanor larceny.

She was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Incidents reported to the sheriff’s office include:

n A dog valued at $400 was stolen from a house on Joyce Circle, Hoffman.

n At a house on 6th Street, Safie, Rockingham, someone did $125 damage to a door and stole $325.

n At a house on N.C. 381, Hamlet, someone did $40 damage to a door and stole $1,500.

n Bank checks of an Entwistle Road, Rockingam, resident, were lost or stolen and one $40 check was written at a store and one was written for $300 in cash.

n Two window air-conditioning units valued at $200 each were stolen from a house on Ingram Street, Rockingham.

n Tools valued at $200 were stolen from a house on Billy Covington Road, Rockingham.

n Two victims said a total of $349 in property was stolen from them while at a park in East Rockingham.

n A fishing pole valued at $80 was stolen from a house on Mill Street, Ellerbe.
