Read the Bible

I have recently visited and/or communicated with many of my former schoolmates of the 1960s. Most of them are not Christians and none of them are reading the Bible. Without trying to find themselves, they have decided it is useless to read the Bible. They have heard many people say many contradictory things about what the Bible says. They feel there is no point in trying to read a book that can be interpreted in so many ways.

I told them to read the Bible for themselves, beginning in the New Testament book of John. Jesus says we are to come to Him as a “little child” (Matthew 18:3). If that is so, I don’t think God would make His word difficult to understand.

Verses like the one in Matthew referred to above and verses like “love your neighbor as thyself” and “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” are simple and to the point.

Any 10-year-old can understand what is being said. If they are true, we need to believe in a Savior who loves us and wants us to receive Him in the form of the Holy Spirit to become a part of the family of God.

I decided in 1981 that these verses were true and asked God to forgive me of my sins and make me one of His sons. I believe He did just that.

I would not only encourage my former schoolmates but everyone who has not read the Bible to read it. Decide for yourself if Jesus is the “Way, the truth and the life.”

This message is for Hamletresident. God is the God of all nations and the entire world but that world and those nations do not pray to the same God!! In addition, people pray to God (using him like a genie in a bottle) that are not Christians and will not spend an eternity in heaven with said Father. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists do not pray to "a" God not "the" God who is the only true and just One. Secondly, unless all those nations are praying to God to ask for forgiveness of their sins and accepting his Son as their Savior, then those prayers are not heard by God. Your post does not make me mad but it makes me sad because your view is like that of so many people-people who if the Lord chose to come to the earth today would be left out and spend their eternity in hell. There is only one way-ONE WAY-to be present in heaven for an eternity and that is believing that Jesus CHrist died on the cross for your sins, asking him to forgive you of the sins in your life and giving your life totally to him.

I believe and know this to be true...but what if I am wrong. Then it won't matter anyway. I will either be heaven anyway or hell. But if I am right and the only way to heaven and eternal life is through Jesus Christ, then that means you are wrong and hell is the only place that has a reservation for your soul for an eternity.

Thank goodness for people like Jay Shutt who speak the truth and are willing to take the criticism for it.

One More thing..... Politics by their very nature are dividing, so why make a letter written totally about the Bible and Jesus into a political debate? Can't we all agree on Jesus? And if we can't, can we at least stay on point with it all!

The left and the right have values which are of Christ, so it's become rather useless for me to actually try and make one better than the other. I happen to be a democrat, doesn't mean I agree with everything they stand for. I'm sure there are many republicans who don't agree with everything their party stands for either...

The point is.. READING THE BIBLE and DEVELOPING A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST! I don't care what party you belong to, you can benefit greatly from that.... because there will be no politics in Heaven or Hell!

Rarely do I agree with Mr. Shutt, but on this I must agree! Starting in the New Testament will help build your knowledge and understanding and most importantly a firm foundation and relationship with Christ, so the Old Testament can be understood more clearly.

We look to all sorts of self help books, and so called authorities on this and that to help us with our issues, but I can tell you from personal experience.... all the answers to any problem you ever face can be found in the Bible. Jesus is the answer, and He always will be!

Again Bonnie more inuccurate conjuncture on your part. I never said that I woted for Clinton. I'm not as big of fool as you and Jay. No I don't know what point you were trying to make, I know your motives are to keep Jay's letter on this blog site, so I'll not respond to any more of your blogs.

Oh Hamlet, come on now, don't play dumb--You know the point that I was making. I still believe in following the principles and beliefs of my Founders - That the nation was founded on Godly principles. Religious symbols all over the Capitol, even the Ten Commandments engraved there, by our Founders. Why do you want to be hostile to those who still believe in the Bible and the principles that America was founded on.

J

Lucky you if Penn is connected to your family. My family came from Scotland(dad) and Ireland (mom, Cassidy) As much as I hate to admit it, Clinton's hanging on the same family tree. Hamlet, please just try to relax and let everyone have is say - there was nothing derogatory in Jay;s or my message. We didn't attack you or anyone else. Jay didn't even ask you to believe - he was just relating an incident.

And please try to refrain from insults. I know if you thought I were crazy, you would never say such a thing. What drives you up the wall is that you know I'm not. LOL

And I wouldn't say anything about some one voting for Sanford, if I had voted for Clinton.

At least Sanford will step down-- Republicans will insist on it.

Sanford, didn't make the governor's mansion into a sex rumpus room. Bill Clinton highly disrespected the Oval Office. You nor I can do anything about what either done. All we can do is not vote for them. end of subject.

By the way Bonnie, one of my ancestors was sued by Wm. Penn over land ownership and my ancestor won. It seems that they were neighbors!

Bonnie, either you can't read or you have a mental problem. Read my blog, I called two people religious fanatics YOU AND JAY! I don't know where your ancestors came from but I know exactly where mine came from and who they were! I have FIVE who served in the Rev. War. You get crazier each and every day. No wonder you vote for fools for governors and president. That also accounts for you fond memories of Geo. Bush.

Hamlet, I am astounded at your lack of knowledge in history.

You are calling our Founders, along with Jesus, fanatics

Charles Caroll: Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure...are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."

William Penn “Those people who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants”

It was Benjamin Franklin who promoted the first piece of legislation "I therefore beg to move that, henceforth, prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven and it's blessing on our deliberation be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business."

And our Capitol has many Godly engravings put there by our Founders.

There is no law that says anyone has to go to a particular church. However the men who signed our Constitution believed that our nation would only prosper if we relied heavily on God. So do I.

You still don't get it Bonnie! Morality is only one small part of being a repsponsible person! I don't give a rats but what Sanford was doing, the simple fact is that he was not doing what he was suppose to be doing! Neither for the State of S.C. nor for his family! Also its too bad that you have to learn the hard way (and sometimes you never learn) who to vote for. That is the problem with most Republicans! Not really sure who you are referring to here when you say they show animosity toward anyone who calls himself a Christian; If you are referring to me you are as wrong as can be. I have several friends who are Christian Ministers. I also have friends who are very devoted to other religions. I do not have a lot of friends that I would classify as fanatics, which is certainly the category that I would place you and Jay into. As for your grandson; that is not what I would call undercover missionary. but that is a simple disagreement over terms. Maybe when he has been there a little longer, he will be able to give you a better understand of people in other parts of the world.
|
June 24, 2009
And BTW-turning people off? I get quite a few calls that say the opposite. And you turn pople off as well, with your animosity toward anyone who proclaims Christianity.

When I wrote that, I knew exactly how you would respond to the statement that he had to minister under cover. "His commandment is to 'go into all the world and preach the Gospel" How does one do that in nations who will not allow it. The choice is not hard. Under cover. He never lied once...took his bible with him openly and it wasn't even checked. Quickly got a job at a university and lived on campus.

He graduated Clemson last year cum laude (business, minoring in poltical science) and was home 3 mos when he left for China.

He came home last night and I'm hoping he will stay here. He has been affiliated with an org that began years ago by Billy Graham.

Non sequitur - I know you have been watching the News about Sanford. I'm still watching it. Politicians can't be trusted. I would never vote for Sanford again, even as dog catcher. He's just as immoral as Bill Clinton, though this was his first affair and Clinton had oodles.

Bonnie, it is not our place to judge how and if other people worship the sme God that we worship.

That was the gust of of my blog that apparently you totally missed! If your grandson is an "undercover missionary" then apparently he is somewhere that he sould not be, and is using the wrong approach. Jesus didn't work undercover! Your problem as well as Jay's is that you turn more people off from religion than you turn on! Just like you turn more people off of the Republican Party than you turn on. If you want to do God's work why don't you start a campaign against the S.C. govoner? Any man who is the head of a state and disappears for four days without placing a responsible person in charge is irresponsible and has no business in that position. Also no responsible Father leaves his family for four days without keeping his family informed of this whereabouts. Being a responsible person is Christian principle as well as common sense for anyone of any religious principle.

Sharkee, I gotta post in opposition to you - just a little bit.

Parrots little speak as humans do.

Oh yeah, and lemmings regularly run off the ends of cliffs.

Just thought I'd include those little factoids of nature for your Wiki-ing pleasure later.

And Mr. Shutt, I think more people should read the Bibble. For the most part, I think it has some great life lessons in it. However, I think the turn-off is not the Bible. The turn-off is the people. You go to church, and there's a lot of hypocrisy. There's often a lot of gossip. There's a ton of cliquish behavior. There's lots of judgement going on.

I mean, honestly, you can pray and talk with God every night, or when do you want to. Too often, you see people - and unfortunately, from my experience, their kids, that are just not the epitome of the human beings that they're either supposed to be - or everyone thinks they are. That's a heckuva turn-off for organized religion.

Be happy with your God. Be good to one another.

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to Sharkee who wrote that he has not seen a miracle nor should any educated person believe. Sharkee, science has proven to me many times over that the Bible is accurate, you believe not in the miracles because you are blinded by deception. In order to see truth, then truth must be in them, just as in order for ones body to crave vitamins, then vitamins must be present in the body, one cannot crave or miss what it does not have. The Love of Christ is like an addiction once you have tasted the truth, you would never want to live without it. It fills one with a natural feeling that one would never want to be without. The Bible taught us, many years ago that the number of stars or grains of sand is immeasurable (Jeremiah 33:22), just as the scientists have finally admitted. It taught us in (1 Corinthians 15:41) that all the suns, moons, and stars are unique, another fact that the scientist are discovering. In (Jeremiah 31: 35,36) we are taught the movement of the universe including the tides and in Job 26:7 we learn another interesting fact, that he earths hangs on nothing. These are things that scientist still marvel at and just learned over the last few hundreds of years. The fact that air has weight was established only 300 years ago yet the Bible taught us much earlier in Job 28:25. Ecclesiastes 1:6 teaches us what meteorologists still are learning. Leviticus 17:11 taught us that the life is in the blood, whereas it was not proven by science until William Harvey discovered in 1616 what the Bible taught 3000 years earlier. I could go on and on, and anyone who reads can find certain truths for themselves that can not be disputed. I see miracles every day, you reading this is a miracle, because human sight can still not be completely understood or explained by science or medicine. You breathing air that is mixed precisely with oxygen and water and minerals to keep you alive is a miracle. The birth of my daughter and her being alive today was a miracle, the doctors will even attest to that, even the ones that don’t believe in God will tell you that they do not understand why she is alive. If you don’t believe because of a few things such as talking animals, I will continue to pray for you, however a few talking animals being used by God is easy for me to accept, much easier than people who are given all of this intelligence that you claim the world has, and use it to try to disprove the existence of our Lord and Savior. The times we are living in now, are also told about in the Bible, and things will only become worse for a nation that has turned away from God.
|
June 23, 2009
Hamlet, I agree he is Lord of all who will allow Him to be. He tells us in in Ps 33:12 'Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord'

America has been blessed beyond compare. Our nation was established on Godly principles. It's evident in all the early buildings.

My grandson is now in a nation that does not allow God or the Bible...they worship another god.

He's teaching English but he is also an undercover missionary He has gained quite a few converts to the Christian faith.

One important thing for Jay and Bonnie to remember. God is the Lord of many nations including Iran,China, and India also. God is the Lord of Israel and also the many Muslin Nations of the world. Don't ever forget that because you claim to be a Christian that you do not have a corner on God's love and care!. They are praying to the same God that you are!!!!!!!!!The Bible does not say as you do unto the least of Christians it says as you do unto the least of men!

I'm sorry, I accidentally hit the send button on the previous post: This is the verse that I was referring to:

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry." 2 Timothy 4:1-8.

I beleive we are now living in those times.

Hey Jay,

What about all the hate that you have ranted. Have you helped the poor? Has your heart become more tender as time passed? How have you grown with time to be more like Jesus?

Politician are using Jesus and the bible as there posterboy. Don't let these greedy people tell you what a christian is. They are in it for their personal and party progression. Which in nature is a sin.

People be kind to your fellow human. Work on clearing your heart and mind from hate. Help the less fortunate. Because when your at the gates of heaven, I think these progression in "your" life will determine your passage not how many times you read the bible.

Thank You Jay.

One day when you stand before God (and we ALL will) He will reward you for speaking the TRUTH, and not being ashamed of it.

God knows how you have been "mocked", just as all those who truly proclaim Jesus have. You keep telling the Gospel, the "Good News", and praying for the ones who are blinded to it. That is the last request Jesus made to us...."the Great Commission". One day the mockers and scorners will remember what you said, hopefully before it's too late for them.

God Bless You.

My life span has been long and I’ve learned a thing or two

And I know that it’s inevitable that soon I’ll say adieu

To you, my friends and neighbors, who’ve meant so much to me

Life is not forever, nor is it meant to be

But remember what I tell you as you go along your way

Judge people by their actions and not by what they say

And beware young whippersnapper who think you know it all

If you don’t continue learning, you’re destined for a fall

And wisdom comes with aging, this you’ll learn in time

And learning is essential and knowledge is sublime

So when you get my age, much wiser you will be

I’ll soon be eighty two, and blessed as you can see

I’ve learned my history well from living much of it

Some from books, admittedly, when taught, was every whit

But now so much has been omitted and all are being told

The way to go is Socialism - let government take control

Let’s get back to our basics, when everyone was free

Rich and poor alike- from land to ‘shining sea’

We’ll soon commemorate the birthday of our nation

Let’s allow a prayer of thanks be part of our celebration
