Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Lilesville Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Lawson and Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home.
Benford was born March 17, 1922 in Anson County, a son of the late Charles Sandy and Fannie Jones Craig. Following the death of his mother at childbirth, Benford and his twin brother, Bedford, were adopted and reared by Maley and Sallie Marks Harris. He was retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad with 42 years of service and was a member of Lilesville Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Margaret Moore Harris of the home; his sons, Benny Harris of Wadesboro and Craig Harris of Peachland; three grandchildren.
His brothers, Thomas and Ervin Craig and Bedford Harris preceded him in death.
