Dear Editor,
The Rockingham Middle School Science Olympiad team offers our appreciation and thanks to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockingham Rotary Club for their support of our students this academic year.
A special thanks to Pee Dee Electric for their support of our team through the Bright Ideas initiative.
Too, the Science Olympiad team commends parent volunteers Scott Brewer and Steve Taylor for their assistance with the Launched Glider and Mousetrap Vehicle construction events.
In the same way, our gratitude extends to retired RMS educator, Jim Pippin, for his diligent coaching and direction in the Road Scholar event along with Rockingham Middle School band director, Curtis Swallow, for his expertise in the Sounds of Music competition. RMS won first place in each of these contests.
Rockingham Middle School is fortunate to have many benefactors who through their generous contributions, enable us to offer challenging and motivational activities to our students. Event coaches and science teachers Rachel Peters, Kristie Wikane and Deborah Marshall have inspired and encouraged these students to excel in science, technology, engineering and math. This endeavor has truly been a community effort.
Please wish our Science Olympiad team continued success as we travel to North Carolina State University for the state finals in April.
Excelsior!
Nikki Covington
Rockingham Middle School Science Olympiad Advisor
