Weynona Young Burgess, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Birmingham, Alabama, a daughter of the late Morgan and Irene Baker Young. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church , where she had been a member of the Merry Makers and the Tuesday Morning Bible Study. She had retired from the office of the Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James R. Burgess, grandchildren, Guy W. Boyd, Kim B. Bowyer and Brandon Y. Burgess.

Surviving are sons, James Richard Burgess Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, Todd Young Burgess of Rockingham; daughter, Joan Marie Burgess of Rockingham; granddaughter, Mica Jamison; great-grandchildren, Shayna Boyd, Roland Bowyer Jr., Harlie Lambert; and a great great granddaughter, Shayla Boyd.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will be held privately.

The family will see friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, at the church and at other times at the home on Arbor Road.
