LEWISTOWN, Pa. — Lela Mae Luther Lucas Edwards, 90, formerly of Kish Apts., went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, at 7:35 a.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Golden Living Center, William Penn.
Born in Osborne, N.C., on May 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Edna (Lawrence) Luther.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence G. Lucas Jr., on Feb. 17, 1975 and her second husband, David Edwards.
She was also preceded in death by brother, G. C. Luther and an infant brother, Dale Luther.
Surviving are: children, Melanie Palmer, of Talkeetna, Alaska, Lawrence C. Lucas and wife, Dee, of Burnham, Kim Lucas and wife, Cindy, of McAllisterville, step-children, Randy Edwards and wife, Carol, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dean Edwards and wife, Gloria, of Charlotte, and Dale Edwards and wife, Ann, of Rockingham; grandchildren, Todd, Ami, David, of Alaska, Kimberly, of Lewistown, Pa., Megan, of Fla., Joshua, of Montana, and Jacob, of Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Lela was a 1940 graduate of Rockingham High School and attended Queen City Business School in Charlotte.
Lela was an active member of First Baptist Church in Lewistown, Pa.
She enjoyed reading, listening to music and time with family especially her grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Carter officiating.
Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 111 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Mt. Pleasant U.M.C, 861 Grassy Island Road, Ellerbe, N.C. 28338.
