Nancy Eddins Helms passed away on February 4, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. To the very end, she had an incredible spirit that allowed her to pass peacefully.
Nancy was born February 12, 1937 in Richmond County, NC. She was the daughter of the late E.B. and Pearl Eddins. She was educated in North Carolina receiving her under graduate degree from East Carolina University. She earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees from The College of William and Mary. She enjoyed a thirty-year career as an educator and retired from Hampton City Schools as Supervisor of Counseling.
Nancy married the late Bill Helms and soon thereafter relocated to Virginia. They had two sons, Kyle Helms (Dana) and Craig Helms (Julie); six grandchildren, Kellie (Steven), Amy, Cody, Colton, Lyndsay (Rob) and Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Aubrey and Aaron, all who are left to cherish her memory. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Helms.
Nancy was a wonderful mother and managed a very successful career along with a rewarding family life. She touched the lives of many, and will be mourned by all.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rockingham, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the cemetery fund at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1247 Sandhill Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.
