Students at Monroe Avenue Elementary joined efforts to raise money for the Toys for Tots Foundation. The school’s “Toys for Tots Tokens” collection began Oct. 19, and every Friday the student government “Tiger Council” members collected the donated money from each classroom. The school kept a chart in one of its main hallways graphing each classroom’s total. Monroe Avenue’s final collection day was Dec. 14. The school-wide goal was $1,000 and the grand total they reached was $1,138.05. The classroom collecting the most money was rewarded with a pizza party lunch. The year’s top classroom was Mandy Dawkins’s first grade class, which collected a total of $205.05.
