The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with the murder of Norman General Store owner, Michael Leverne Collins Sr., 53, who was killed during a robbery overnight Monday, according to Sheriff James Clemmons Jr.

Deputies responded to the scene at 12:24 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a family member. The deputies found the store owner dead, the sheriff said.

“We have two suspects in custody and one has been charged,” said Clemmons on Tuesday afternoon.

Alexander Ingram, 61, of Jackson Springs, N.C., has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and murder, the sheriff said. Ingram is in custody at Richmond County Jail, under no bond.

The second suspect has yet to be charged, and Clemmons refrained from commenting further as investigation is still ongoing.

Clemmons said the body would be sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office at Chapel Hill to determine the cause of death.

We used to have a law about 3 strikes, you`re out to confine habitual criminals, do they no longer exist? Why?

First and foremost a sincere prayer to the immediate family of the deceased as well as all others who were affected/effected by the bad news . Moreover, I will miss this person very much. He served me respectively and thus it breaks me up to hear that he left us like that. Therefore, I pray that the greatest justice for him and his family shall be, and that their be no more killings in Norman period. Let us please overcome this tragedy in the spirit of meekness, and with an understanding of how important it is for our community to stand together during times like these. God help Norman.

I knew this man personally and truly hope that those charged and convicted will receive punishment that fits the crime... the death penalty... Not going to judge or point fingers until the court system works it all out... but whoever did this took a good man... Death to he/she/them...RIP Mike...
