Hazel Alma Yates, 86, of 1017 Morningside Drive, Rockingham died on November 5, 2012. She was born the 7th of 12 children on December 31, 1925 in Richmond County. Hazel was the daughter of the late Cliff Lafayette and Rosa Belle Seawell Yates. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers (Leon, Bob, Herbert, Clegg, and Donnie) and five sisters (Evelyn, Mabel, Sara, Faye, and Betty Jean).

She is survived by her sister, Marthann Bellamy of Rockingham and special nephew, Chip Maness of O’Berry Center of Goldsboro, she is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Hazel was a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women. She was a member of the Rockingham Business and Professional Women Club and Richmond County Association for Mentally Handicap Children. She held many offices in these clubs. In 1974, she was elected Woman of the Year of the Rockingham BPW Club. Before her retirement, Hazel worked as the bookkeeper at R. W. Goodman Company for 63 years.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 8th, from 6-8 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, November 9th, at 3:30 p.m. at West Rockingham United Methodist Church.
