Jerry Lee Goodman, 73, of Rockingham died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his home. He was born February 20, 1939 in Richmond County, a son of the late John Lawrence Goodman and Maggie Wallace Goodman.

Mr. Goodman was a 1957 graduate of Rockingham High School, where he lettered in four sports and played in the 1956 Shrine Bowl football game. He was a 1961 graduate of Wake Forest University and was a member of the baseball team. Mr. Goodman started his teaching and coaching career at Greensboro Page High School and returned to Rockingham High School to coach and teach in 1962. He moved to Richmond Senior High in 1972 to teach history/civics and coach varsity basketball and cross country. He started his own business, Jerry’s Shoe Corner, in Rockingham, before returning to earn a Master’s degree in School Administration at UNC- Pembroke and joining the staff at Hamlet Junior High as Asst. Principal. Mr. Goodman became Asst. Principal and Athletic Director at Richmond Senior High and retired in 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Saturday, November 3rd at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife, Beverly Evans Goodman; a daughter, Shannon Goodman Maibodi and husband Mehdi of Charlotte:a son, Brandon Goodman and wife Molly of Southern Pines; four grandchildren, Cameron, Evan, and Ariana Maibodi and Abe Goodman; a sister, Doris G. Simmons of Lillington; and two brothers, Malcolm Goodman of Raleigh, and Bruce Goodman of Wadesboro. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Raymond, Otis, Odell, Audrey, Eli, Bill, Bobby, and Jimmy.
