If you’ve traveled through downtown Rockingham recently, chances are you’ve seen a new set of wheels parked in front of BB&T — a reminder to purchase your ticket for the Rockingham Rotary Auction’s annual truck raffle. The winner of this year’s raffle will be given the keys to a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado.

The auction will be held at the Rockingham Armory on Nov. 6.

Tickets are $100 each, but only a limited number will be sold.

“Last year we reduced the number of tickets we were selling to 400,” said President Rick Bacon. “This year we’re again going to sell 400, and in the nine years that I’ve been a member of the club, I believe we’ve always sold all the tickets.”

He added that this year, at least two members have returned for more tickets after selling their initial allotment.

Every year, the club asks all new truck dealers in the city to bid on selling them a vehicle, Bacon said, and Dieffenbach was this year’s low bidder.

“The truck is a base Colorado, a work truck,” he said. The truck is equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, OnStar and other features.

According to club members, the truck raffle is one of the biggest hits at the auction.

“It’s really the driving force and a terrific value for someone,” said President-Elect David Wood. “A lot of people keep it, some sell it, and some go in partnership with others … Dieffenbach is always generous to give Rotary a good price so we can have proceeds of more than $60,000 going toward charities.”

“The truck raffle is singularly the biggest money-maker in our auction,” Bacon said. “Approximately 50 percent of the money we give to local charities comes from the profits of the local truck sale … Tickets are only $100 with a limit of 400 — much better odds than winning the lottery.”

The event will also host a raffle for $1,000 and $500 Visa Gift Cards. Tickets can be purchased for $5 each.

To purchase your ticket, call Bacon at 910-331-3090, or contact another member of the Rockingham Rotary. Tickets will also be available at the door.
